Hey Google, Define “Otaku”

Anime

I could make a whole website about why everyone should watch anime, but I won’t do that to you. If I were to put (a few) reasons for loving anime in a couple of sentences, it’s the following:

Plots & Fights

Story plots are nothing new. Shows, movies, books, they all have them. When it comes to anime, though, plots take on a whole new meaning. Japanese animations are not afraid to explore stories, and it shows. Animes plots can be about:

  • Full of pirates spending 10+ years to find a treasure in a world where obtaining powers means you can’t swim
One Piece
  • Wizards in faraway world who strive to become kings and the best guilds in town
Fairy Tail
Black Clover
  • Swordsmen who fight supernatural demons with nothing but their enhanced breathing (they are not superheroes; they just breathe faster)
Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba

Animes genres can mix and match, creating unique pieces:

  • Shojo with dark themes (i.e., physical, verbal, and emotional abuse)
Fruits Basket
  • Magical girls with horror and gore
Puella Magi Madoka Magica
  • Seinen/Shonen with the weird and bizarre
Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure

Speaking of fights…

Crisp Animation

Anime fight scenes are known to have many things. Riveting dialogue, exhilarating action, and most importantly, supreme animation. You know a fight scene is epic when the animation is crisp.
