Good Beginner Dog Breeds

There are many different dog breeds out there, but not all are beginner friendly. Below, I have provided some of the 3 best beginner dog breeds/best dogs for first-time owners.

Cavalier King Charles Spaniel

The Cavalier King Charles spaniel is a great choice for first-time dog owners because they are a small, sweet, affectionate dog. They get along well with children, easy to train and are usually quiet. They don’t require anything too extensive, just basic daily exercise and their coat is medium length that may require brushing. They also come in different colors!

Golden Retriever

The Golden Retriever is another amazing dog for first-time owners. They are known to be family dogs and are the most popular dog in America. They are larger dogs, intelligent, loyal, very affectionate and very active. Training is relatively easy for these dogs and require regular brushing.

Pomeranian

The Pomeranian is another great small choice. They are lap dogs, great with families, easy to train and need basic daily exercise. Although it may look tough to maintain their coat, it’s really not…all they need is regular brushing. They also come in different colors!

Bonus:
Mixed breeds

Another great choice is to rescue a mixed dog from a shelter, (this can usually be cheaper than buying a pure bred as well). Since they are a mix, they’ll be less prone to develop genetic issues and health problems.
When you go to a shelter you can either meet different dogs and see if their personality is a right fit, or have someone that works there help you find one that may be a right fit. The great thing about this is if you don’t know what breed you want you could find a mix of ones you like and get that!
