Donnie Darko 2001

Background:

“Donnie Darko” is a cult classic psychological science fiction film directed by Richard Kelly, released in 2001. The story revolves around Donnie Darko, a troubled and eccentric teenager portrayed by Jake Gyllenhaal, who narrowly escapes death when a mysterious giant rabbit named Frank informs him that the world will end in 28 days. As Donnie navigates through a surreal blend of reality and hallucination, the film explores themes of time travel, mental illness, and existentialism.

What I like about the film:

The director takes a very unique approach on time travel in this movie. The way this movie made me feel in ending is something I cannot describe. They make the main character “Donnie” so relatable but at the same time he is so unique from everyone else. The story and emotion in the film makes it so iconic.
