Let’s understand that…
“Rap” and “Hip-Hop”
are NOT the same thing!
The true distinction between rap and hip hop, according to most experts, is that one is a subset of the other. Rap is a rhythmic type of vocal recitation used in many of hip hop’s most popular tracks. However, it is only one aspect of the larger hip-hop cultural phenomenon.
Rapping is a specific vocal delivery. Much of today’s rap music isn’t based on firsthand experiences with hip-hop culture. There’s a disconnect between many aspects of contemporary rap music and the real-world memories of the artists involved – and it’s this disconnect and lack of authenticity that prevents the tracks from being hip hop.
Raps are inspired by personal experience and the way one individual lives. We take our words and write them down in both good and bad times. Allow the words to flow into a rhythm that only you and those who are going through similar experiences can sense.
"I'm 100 percent original, and that is what got me here. My rap music is more understandable, slower. It tells a story. You can write a book on each of my thoughts" - Tupac Shakur
