Ireland is two countries.

There is Northern Ireland, a part of the United Kingdom, and the other majority, the Republic of Ireland.

The War is called the Troubles, which lasted for 30 years; the people of Ireland were divided into two identities. The people from Northern Ireland Identify as British because they are a part of the United Kingdom.  The Republic of Ireland, an independent county, identifies as Irish.

Let’s go back to the 12th century. Herny the 2nd wanted to strengthen the papacy’s control over the Irish church and decided to take over large parts of Ireland. As time passed, there was less and less control over Ireland than the English, but the British started to take complete control. During that time, both English and Catholic natives were catholic; then, the English began to pick up more of the Irish culture to the point they were unrecognizable by the English. Due to this, laws were even created to keep the two from marrying. Can you believe it? They even try to ban the use of the Irish language in Ireland. Terrible, I tell you, but these laws had no effect. Eventually, Europeans turned away from being Catholics but became a part of the Christian faith, which is considered Protestantism; in 1542, Henry the 8th became King of Ireland after a Parliament act and a list of other things. For some time, people died, and crowns were snatched, but they could unite between the Scottish, British, and Irish. As time went on, people from different countries snatched the northern land from each other, but Ireland was able to break from under rule on April 18, 1949 Northern Ireland finally became a part of the UK on May 3, 1921
