Modern Age of Heavyweight Boxing

Background 

With the Silver Age coming to a close, most of the silver age boxers would either retire or continue boxing to this day. The silver age would become the last hurrah of the previous generations of heavyweights. Golden Age and Lost Generation stars such as George Foreman and Larry Holmes would have their final great fights during the Silver Age. The Modern Age would begin in 2002, after the fight between Lennox Lewis and Mike Tyson.

The Superstars of this Era 

The Modern Era would show the twilight years of Evander Holyfield, Mike Tyson, Riddick Bowe, and other silver age boxers. The era would see the reign of the Klitschko brothers, Deontay Wilder and Anthony Joshua. The current champions of the era are Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk. This era has spectacular fights such as the amazing trilogy of Fury v. Wilder, the duology of Usyk v. Joshua, and the dethroning of Wladimir Klitschko by Tyson Fury. 

The modern era has unique and captivating stars such as Francis Ngannou, Tyson Fury, Oleksandr Usyk, Deontay Wilder, Anthony Joshua, Zhilei Zhang, and Andy Ruiz Jr. The modern era similar to the Golden Era introduced upscaled heavyweights. The average weight of heavyweight champions being 245 pounds compared to the Early History average heavyweight champions being 195 pounds. 

This era would see the rise and fall of many heavyweight champions including the Klitschko brothers.

Conclusion 

This era is still ongoing and still has many more stories to tell. With the upcoming bouts of Wilder v. Parker and Joshua v. Wallin and the bout agreement between Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk, the heavyweight division can enter another Golden or Silver Age.
