Sandstone Rock Formations
Antelope Canyon, Navajo Nation

Sandstone formations, such as those found in places like Antelope Canyon, are created through a process called sedimentation and lithification.
It starts with the accumulation of sand grains, often carried by wind or water, in a particular area.
Over time, these grains pile up and get compacted.
The weight from the layers above, along with minerals that cement the grains together, turns the loose sand into solid rock – in this case, sandstone.
The unique shapes and patterns in places like Antelope Canyon result from further erosion by water and wind, carving out intricate formations in the hardened sandstone.
The brilliant red hues come from the presence of iron oxide in the rock.
These rock formations offer a glimpse into the geological artistry sculpted by erosion.
I feel that they resemble landscapes from another planet.
