Poster that reads "Oktoberfest" but uses objects to make the letters

Childlike Typography

This example of typography was found inside of Das Bierhalle in Bel Air, Maryland. This is the second location for a German-inspired restaurant, though this location is described as an “Oktoberfest-style sports bar with a modern twist.”

While the context of the typography is not necessarily child-like being as it’s for Oktoberfest, I do think the objects being illustrated have a somewhat child-like feeling to them. It feels sort of whimsical and not overly structured. It’s playful. I especially like how the shadow in the envelope is what is making the letter “k.”

  1. This is really cute! I agree, the element used to represent “K” is very interesting. At first glance it very obviously says “Oktoberfest,” but looking at the individual letters I had to pause at the “K” for a moment before I figured it out.

    1. I agree! Your brain kind of automatically fills it in when you read it as a word, but when you actually look at each individual letter, you kind of stop for a minute before realizing what it’s supposed to be.
