Sampling is a very significant tradition in music, especially in Hip Hop and pop. Some people may believe that the practice of sampling is lazy and unoriginal. I believe it pays homage to songs from our past. Sampling adds more to the “conversation”. I can take a piece of a song made in the 50s and put my own spin on it in 2023 as if saying ” well here’s what I got to say”. Artists over time have been putting their own spins on pieces of the past, essentially creating a patchwork, or rather, a never-ending conversation. I think that’s pretty cool, seeing how the same piece of music has been reinterpreted time and time again over decades. I hope to get website viewers to learn more about sampling. I hope to have viewers see my perspective on the practice of sampling or least see it in a more positive light. I want readers to become aware that it takes talent to discern which piece of music would make a good sample, manipulate that sample, and create a  song with it. I want people to realize that sampling is more of a tradition in music and each generation carries the torch. Sampling has been around for so long. It won’t be dying out any time soon. While looking through my website and the examples of songs with samples, I hope and believe that at least a reader will come to believe that to.
Though I will be exploring different approaches of sampling across different genres of music, my website will mainly focus on the sampling most people know today – reusing pieces of music from already made songs.
