Local Food and Drink

Columbia’s culinary scene reflects its diverse population. You can find a wide array of local food and drink options that cater to various tastes and preferences. Here is a brief overview of the many options that exist:

Ethnic Cuisine: The area boasts loads of specialty restaurants which serve ethnic delicacies of a region inspired by it’s local culture. You can find everything from Indian, Mexican, Asian, Korean, Vietnamese, Japanese, and so much more. Some of my families favorites are El Azteca (Mexican), Pho Dat Thanh (Vietnamese), and Sushi Sono (Japanese).

Farm-to-Table: Many eateries in Columbia emphasize locally sourced ingredients which support the area’s agricultural community. These establishments often prioritize freshness and sustainability by offering dishes that highlight the region’s seasonal produce and meats. Two restaurants that my family enjoys are The Turn House and Bushel and a Peck.

Craft Breweries and Distilleries: There are plenty of local craft breweries and distilleries for enthusiasts to indulge in. Columbia is home to several establishments that produce a wide range of craft beers, ales, and spirits, often with unique flavors and styles. These include Hysteria Brewing Co, Lost Ark Distilling Co, and Manor Hill Brewing to name a few.

Farmers’ Markets: For those interested in exploring fresh produce and artisanal goods, Columbia’s farmers markets are the place to go! These markets offer a vibrant atmosphere where you can discover locally grown fruits, vegetables, baked goods, and other treats as well as engage with others in the community. The markets are held at different spots throughout Columbia during the year.

As you can see, Columbia offers just about everything you can imagine to tempt your taste buds!

Fun Fact: Manor Hill Brewing is located on a piece of land that was part of Doughoregan Manor. This also happens to be the former home of Founding Father Charles Carroll, a signer of the Declaration of Independence, who is buried on the property. Notable guests who once visited the manor include George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, John Adams, John Hancock, Benjamin Franklin, James Monroe, and Marquis de Lafayette!
