Nursing provides many areas of specialty, allowing individuals to choose who and what they are specifically interested in working with and treating. The four main fields of nursing are adult health, children’s health, disabilities, and mental health. These four fields can be broken down into more specific categories as well. There are a total of 96 specialties in healthcare today.
Adult Health Nursing
Adult health nursing includes providing care to individuals 18 and older. The plan of care is individual to the patient, and can become more specific depending on their case.
Children’s Health Nursing
Children’s health includes patients ranging from newborn to the age of 18. The plan of care is individual to the patient and can become more specific depending on their case.
Disability Nursing
Disability nursing includes any individuals, of any age with some sort of disability. These disabilities could be physical or mental. These nurses tend to patients with disabilities such as Down Syndrome and Autism, along with disabilities that can cause physical or motor damage such as Cystic Fibrosis.
Mental Health Nursing
Mental health nursing includes care of all ages, however is seen more in older children and adults. Mental health nursing involves tending and treating patients with any mental illness. This would include patients with severe anxiety, depression, schizophrenia, bipolar, eating disorders, PTSD, and many more.
