The Northern Peaks Trail located upon Sugarloaf Mountain consists of marvelous views and enthralling terrain, making it an awesome trail for any level hiker! Located just outside of Barnesville, Maryland, the Northern Peaks Trail is very accessible and popular area for Maryland Hikers. While hiking, expect to see some spectacular views, streams, wildflowers, and wildlife. It is a very well-marked trail, so it is very easy to follow along. Hiking this area in the Fall is highly recommended, because of the beautiful foliage that captivates the valley this time of year.
What to Know Before You Go: Dogs are welcomed at the trail, as long as they are leashed. People tend to hike the trail counterclockwise, so prepared to cross paths with several hikers. The parking area does require a small fee in order to hike on the mountain. Wear proper shoes before starting your hike, as it is a rocky terrain. The entire Northern Peaks loop is 6.7 miles and takes about 3 and a half hours to complete. However, there is another blue trail loop which is only 2.7 miles start to finish.
