Soccer is known as the most popular sport in the world. This is just one of the many reasons why I believe it to be the best sport on this list!
Reasoning:
- Only Professional sport with a promotion/demotion system allowing new teams to be in leagues every year.
- Different leagues have different styles which will allow somebody to watch leagues at a pace they like.
- Although there are teams that have way more money, underdogs will still win frequently.
My Personal Favorites:
- Newcastle United, the English Premier League is one of the most historic leagues with four professional leagues. There is tough competition, and every game has unique strategies and is always fun to watch. Newcastle is not considered one of the “big” clubs in England by any standard, but they have always been my favorite. A team with a deep history and the only team in the Premier League from the North, they constantly have entertaining games and will put up a fight.
- Borussia Dortmund, the German Bundesliga is also one of the biggest leagues in Europe with a few bigger clubs and a few smaller ones. This however does not limit many high-scoring games with underdogs winning frequently. Dortmund is a club that is one of the two biggest teams in Germany but has not won major trophies in many seasons. However, Dortmund is always competitive and will put on a show!
- DC United, Major League Soccer is a growing league from the US but is making many changes to try to get up to the same standards as clubs in Europe. DC has many players from Europe that can still compete, and this is a very fast-paced league. Although many teams would rather possess the ball, the MLS has a reputation for putting up fast games with plenty of goal scoring opportunities.
