You should always use some type of protection software when browsing the internet. The two that I think are the most essential are VPNs and Antivirus software. Protecting yourself from viruses or prying eyes is much like wearing a hazmat suit to protect against bacteria!
VPNs work by creating a secure channel between your device and the VPN server. You connected to the server and from the server you are then connected to the website you would like to visit. The server hides your IP address so that nobody can figure out your personal device and encrypts your data when you connect. Some VPNs have kill switches which disables all internet connection if the VPN is not on which can greatly increase security. Below is a great video explaining how VPNs work:
I personally use NordVPN for everything I do over the internet, but I also recommend ExpressVPN as well. The websites for the VPNs are the following:
NordVPN;
ExpressVPN:
Antivirus software routinely scans your computer for viruses and will warn you about any suspicious software on your computer. If it finds suspicious software it will remove it. Antivirus also makes sure there isn’t suspicious network traffic and will alert you if there is. Below is a video explaining how antivirus software works:
I personally use webroot and highly recommend it. I have linked the site below:
Remember: Always practice safe browsing methods even if you have protection software!
