Subway- The subway is something that is super easy to take in NYC. The Subway can take you all over Manhattan, Brooklyn, the Bronx, and Queens. For most riders, it only costs around $3 to take the subway! Make sure to check the subway lines to make sure you are getting on the correct train or you could end up in a completely different part of NYC.
MTA Bus System- This bus system has over 200 local routes and 71 express bus routes throughout the five boroughs of NYC. The local routes also cost around $3, but if you would like to take an express bus route it is about $7. You can buy anywhere from a day pass to a month pass.
Hop-On Hop-Off Sightseeing Tours- These tours give you the ability to get on and off the bus at any of the 25+ stops. You can walk and explore and hop back onto another bus. These buses also have tour guides so you are able to get off or stay on and learn about the city. These bus tickets start at about $45.
Taxis- Taxis are available throughout the city and are easy to spot in their bright yellow color. Some taxis only accept cash and traffic can make your ride even more pricey. You could also use rideshare apps such as Uber or Lyft in the city.
Walking & Biking- Walking or biking are the best ways to see all of the New York City sights. Bikes you can rent for the day or you can go on guided bike tours in places such as Central Park, Brooklyn Bridge, Harlem, and the Hudson River. You can obviously choose to walk the city on your own or take a guided tour of many different places in NYC such as inside Broadway, Central Park, Brooklyn Bridge, and more!
Transportation to get to NYC
Plane- There are 3 airports close to NYC that one could fly into. JFK is in Queens which is 15 minutes from Manhattan. LaGuardia is also in Queens which is 8 miles from Manhattan. Newark is located in Newark NJ, but a short ride into the city.
Train- Amtrack runs into Penn Station in NYC. Most major cities have Amtrack that goes to Penn Station such as Boston, Philadelphia, and Washington D.C.
Bus- Taking a bus is one of the best ways of transportation that is inexpensive. Some bus companies that are very popular in getting to the city are Megabus, Greyhound, and Boltbus.
