Massacre River
This river runs along the border between Haiti and the Dominican Republic. Its name originates from colonial conflict in 1728 between Spanish settlers and French pirates, resulting in the demise of thirty French men and staining the river red with their blood. In a tragic parallel in 1937, a conflict between the Dominican army and Haitians ensued, leading to the loss of thousands of Haitian lives, their bodies callously discarded into the river, once again turning its waters red.
