Study tips/ Habits
Not knowing how to study can be very stressful. Certain studying methods work for some people, while others find other methods to work for them. Studying can be a lot easier once figuring out which method works best for you. Here are some methods:
- Retrieval Practice: Recalling an answer improves learning more than looking for an answer in a textbook. Some ways to learn through retrieval practice can be flashcards and practice tests. Flashcards can be written out, or made online through many websites such as Quizlet.
- Spaced Practice: Spaced practice encourages students to study over a long period of time instead of cramming the night before. Heres a way to try this technique:
- Day 1: learn the material in class
- Day 2: revisit and review
- Day 3: revisit and review
- After one week: revisit and review
- After two weeks revisit and review
- The Feynman Technique: The Feynman Technique is a method which allows you to memorize a concept quickly by explaining it in plain and simple terms. By attempting to explain a concept in your own terms, you are likely to understand it a lot faster.
- Study Before bed: Studying before you sleep, such as reviewing flashcards or notes, can help with recall. When you are awake you tend to learn more things, and when you’re asleep you refine them, making it easier to retrieve and apply them.
