Career in Tech
In tech since 2018, Asia has obtained multiple certifications, the most important being ITIL, which landed her in her niche as a ServiceNow SME. A deep understanding of Agile, and being intentional with continuous research on GRC, policies, models, etc. Built a large community on social media through Twitter, helping black people in the community find opportunities in tech and promoting the Pilates Princess™ Brand. As well as networking, consulting on the side, and accruing short-term contracts (3-6 months with 40-60k payout), Asia made over 500k a year.
Job Roles and Responsibilities:
- Designing, configuring, and customizing ServiceNow modules and applications to meet business requirements.
- System Administration
- Solution Design by collaborating with stakeholders to understand business needs and translate them into functional requirements and ServiceNow solutions.
- Integrating ServiceNow with other systems, applications, and tools within the organization’s ecosystem.
- Providing technical support, investigating issues, and resolving incidents or problems related to the ServiceNow platform.
- Conducting training sessions for end-users, administrators, or stakeholders to ensure effective utilization of the platform.
- Enforcing governance standards, best practices, and compliance with ITIL (Information Technology Infrastructure Library) or other relevant frameworks.
- Leading or participating in ServiceNow-related projects, managing timelines, resources, and deliverables.
Criteria
A mix of technical expertise, soft skills, and specific qualifications.
- Salary between 90k – 160k+ per year.
- In-depth knowledge of the ServiceNow platform, including its various modules (IT Service Management, HR Service Delivery, Customer Service Management, etc.), configuration capabilities, scripting languages (JavaScript, Glide), integrations, reporting, and best practices.
- Certifications such as ServiceNow Certified System Administrator (CSA), ServiceNow Certified Implementation Specialist (CIS), etc.
- Technical Skills such as proficiency in scripting languages (JavaScript, AngularJS, HTML, CSS), database structures, and web services/APIs are not always mandatory but highly valued.
- Understanding of business processes and how ServiceNow can be leveraged to streamline operations, improve efficiency, and drive business outcomes.
- Communication Skills and being a team player.
- Continuous learning.
Getting into Tech
Previously working for DC Child Support as a Paralegal, at 25 years old Asia pivoted into tech in March 2018. Obtained the ITIL certification and within 3 months went from making 48k as a Paralegal to 96k working from home -before the pandemic- as a System Administrator and more specifically started her research into the niche of IT Service Management (ITSM). From there obtained a BMC Certified Associate: Remedy AR System cert, then the Certified Scrum Master.
Now Asia can afford to invest in her passions such as Pilates Princess™ Brand and other business avenues.
