Epidemiological information regarding PCOS is not widely available due to the inconsistency of diagnosis criteria.
However, the World Health Organization estimates that PCOS affects between 8-13% of reproductive aged-women (World Health Organization, 2023).
According to one study based on the Rotterdam criteria, it was found that Hispanic women with PCOS have the most severe observable characteristics- excess androgens and insulin resistance (Engmann et al., 2017).
Global incident cases of PCOS grew by 54% from 1990 to 2019. The highest incidence rates are in the 15-19 year old age group (Gao et al., 2023).
