Tokyo 2021

The games must go on! In a global pandemic, the 2020 olympics were postponed, but not canceled. In a time when the coronavirus was rapidly spreading around the world, the tough decision was made to postpone the olympics.

The games were postponed to a year later, and even then there were no fans allowed, and all non-athletes or coaches had to wear masks. The gallery above shows some athletes wearing masks, no one in the stands, and workers in the background wearing masks.

The Tokyo 2021 olympics show the importance of the unifying games. In an almost three-year span that the world has been dealing with COVID, the games went on, giving the world a sense of normalcy in such uncertain times. The games were needed. It was a reminder of who we are. In an increasingly polarizing world, the Tokyo olympics allowed the world to set aside difference, and compete for gold.
