Sydney 2000
To this day, one of the most mind-blowing moments in olympic history came when North Korea and South Korea participated together at the Sydney 2000 olympics in Australia. The two nations operated under the country “Korea” and celebrated side by side as the two nations joined as one and won competitions together.
Today, North Korea remains under the regime of Kim Jong-un, and tensions between the two nations are extremely high. Back then, the two nations were together enough to compete. At the time, there were talks to unify the two Korean countries, combining culture and having a national economy.
In today’s society, that idea seems far-fetched. There are always and constantly ongoing disputes between the two countries, which is seemingly never-ending.
In the video below, you will see the moment that North and South Korea were united as they walked out in the opening ceremony.
