My entire life goal is to make a difference in the lives of others, specifically through healthcare. As a speech-pathology major, I think I will impact the lives of many as I will help them do one of the most important things you do in your daily life: communicate. Joining the military was NEVER in my “plan” or a goal of mine, however, I realized I could use it to my benefit. Being in the United States Air Force has helped me tremendously as a leader, member of a team, strong communicator, and exiting my comfort zone in general. For example, I have never held a weapon before in my life. During boot camp, our M-4 carbine had to be like our best friend. I have never lived in a dorm full of 40 other women, however, during boot camp we had to live with 40 strangers and make it work. I have never run so much in my life with a 50-pound backpack and weapon in my hand, however in boot camp, I had to! My point is, these are all things that have helped me gain the skillset to be where I am today, and if I had simply said “No, this is not what I am used to.” and avoided it, I would have never experienced what I have today.
