“TRENDS”
The amazing thing about art is, any form of it can be a trend by tomorrow.
Dapper Dan is a Harlem native whom opened his first clothing shop in his hometown. Known for birthing impeccable style out of all NY boroughs and The Black Renaissance (a time period where black jazz players, authors, poets, & painters flourished and became a norm, heavily impacting black people’s perceived limitations).
Dapper is my handpicked option to introduce to you trends through my time capsule. Hoping to illuminate exactly how our environments, yet detrimental, is still altered to a form of currency in my eyes called FASHION
“TRENDSETTERS”
” OFF WHITE AND ITS SNOWIN’! ” – Quality Control & Quavo
Trendsetters are some of the most underrated part of any functioning society in my opinion. Art is not an easy thing to convert into a consumer-able product.
Dreams are someones visions and trendsetters typically bridge the gap for masses to enjoy a tangible “idea” of something while somehow sparking a million feelings amongst people towards these “trends”. Virgil, a designer & architect for Off-White (and creative director for mens- LOUIS VUITTON)
For Virgil, he inspired an entire generation of people to be more creative than what we deem to be. With a director role and designer Virgils work was done 90% off of his phone while constantly travelling for work.
Technology’s role in trends and fashion are the bulk of my fascination and goal message to get across for my perspective on Trends. THANK U Virgil
FASHION’S FUTURE
*see video first ->*
Hanifa is a clothing brand started by my mentor, Anifa Mvuemba. Her work and artistic abilities are my closest definition to Fashions Future.
In 2020 the globe was hit with a roaring virus outbreak and a global quarantine mandate was posed on us. Masks, 6ft, Tiktok, Zoom, unemployment, boredom, & loneliness all were uprising for many different people. For many industries this all translated to one word, LOSS. How do you maintain a company of any sort in the midst of an unpredictable pandemic? For Hanifa this was actually reality until fashion week season was approaching and was cancelled, with no surpise there. Anifa put together a 3D fashion show for the fashion girls and guys using Adobe and tech engines. Implementing her ethnic background, The gorgeous Democratic Republic of Congo’s, her ancestry was morphed into her designs, inspirations, and eventually her line
So yes, when I think of the future its impossible to leave out technology but also a big hug of embrace to black creators who again show and allow us to escape for quick moments into pools of art and rich vividness in the worlds most scariest times
