The First US Open

In 1895 the First US Open was held at Newport Country Club in Rhode Island. It was a 1-day 36-hole event. 10 professionals played and one amateur. The winner was Horace Rawlins who was a 21-year-old Englishman. The US Open was British dominated until 1911 when John Mcdermott was the first American to win it.
