If you want to find the best place to learn how to surf, Tamarindo is the perfect place. This famous surf town is tucked up in the northeast corner in the Guanacaste Province of Costa Rica. Tamarindo is a great little town, and it is structured much from the surf lifestyle around it. This town is known mostly because of Witch’s Rock, which is a very famous surf spot off the coast of Tamarindo. The Witch’s Rock surf camp is an excellent camp to learn surfing, and they seem to be the center of the town. Robert August, a surfing icon from The Endless Summer has a home here and even shapes boards at the surf camp.

This surf town has lots of tourists, so it might not be the best place to get away from people and surf in the wild. This town is best for beginners, where you will learn to surf from professionals who are super friendly and helpful. There is some beauty to the town, like all towns in Costa Rica, but nothing that will stand out as special. This location is just a great beginner surf spot.
