Osa

Osa is one of the coolest places on the planet. “Osa” refers to the Osa peninsula, in the Puntarenas Province in south east Costa Rica. The Osa peninsula is very undeveloped, as it is far away from any larger city in Costa Rica and is difficult to access. On the east side of the peninsula, there is only one main town, called Puerto Jimenez. Everything past this town is completely off grid. The roads are completely undeveloped and you’ll question if you can even make it through. The homes are powered by individual solar power and rainwater collection systems. This place is remote.

The reason the Osa Peninsula is so cool is because of the incredible biodiversity. Osa has been named by National Geographic as “the most biologically intense place on earth.” The peninsula alone is home to 2.5% of all biodiversity in the entire world. It is incredible how natural this place is, and how untouched it has remained.

The surf in Osa is extremely underrated. People don’t know about this place and how amazing it is. The local are very territorial because they want it to remain unknown, which is justified because once tourism hits this place and development begins, it will lose its value. The waves at some of these breaks are amazing, although there are some rocks in the water to look out for. One of the most amazing surf beaches is Pan Dulce Beach, where the tide difference is huge, but the waves seem to roll on forever. This was where you will likely find some of the longest rides of your life.
