Jaco is a fun town in the Puntarenas Province of Costa Rica. Jaco is a town known for many things, including surf beaches, nightlife, national parks, and more. Directly in the town of Jaco you will find a strip of storefronts and restaurants running all the way down, parallel to the shore. At night time, all the locals and tourists gather on this strip and enjoy all the nightlife activities Jaco has to offer.

While there are decent beaches and breaks directly in Jaco, only the amateurs surf here. The big waves and the best breaks are found in Playa Hermosa, only 2 miles southeast of the main road in Jaco. Playa Hermosa is a smooth gray sand beach that borders a long dirt road, and on the other side, bungalows for rent. This is one of the best surf spots in Costa Rica because of how easy it is. You can stay in one of the surf bungalows, which are in a super safe, beautiful community, and enjoy the freedom to surf whenever you desire. The beach is gorgeous and the weather seems to always be perfect here. You can even see Scarlett Macaws, an endangered parrot species, fly around from your front porch. This is the perfect place to retire.

While staying in Playa Hermosa’s beach bungalows, you will only be able to walk to a very small town, which consists of a few casual restaurants, convenient stores, and hotels. Jaco is the nearest place for anything more, like a grocery store, gas station, or more entertainment. Playa Hermosa is the perfect location because Jaco is a little dirty and can be crowded, which would not make it an optimal place to stay all the time. By staying on the outskirts, you catch the best waves that the town has to offer while still being in range of an easy trip for groceries or evening entertainment!
