Overview of Jeffery Dahmer

Jeffery Dahmer is also known as, “the Milwaukee Cannibal.”

Jeffery Dahmer was born on May 21, 1960 and died on November 28, 1994.

Dahmer was was considered a normal, happy child until he was 4 years old. At age four, Dahmer underwent surgery for a double hernia correction, which resulted in a difficult recovery. Due to the surgery, his behavior began to change. Dahmer was interested in animal bones as a child, but things changed drastically as he got older.

At age 14, Dahmer witnessed a toxic relationship grow between his parents. Dahmer experienced a traumatic environment at a young age. This caused Dahmer to start drinking in his early teen years. At age 18, his mother left him, and his father was constantly out of town, leaving him completely alone.

Dahmer addresses that his fascination with murder and necrophilia developed when he was just 14 years old.

Dahmer’s First Murders:

  1. June 1978: Steven Hicks. Dahmer murdered his first victim at 18 years old. He killed Hicks by smashing his head with a barbell and strangling him to death.
  2.  September 1987: Steven Tuomi. Dahmer initially planned to drug him, but instead killed him by overdosing. He mutilated the body and performed a sexual act before discarding the remains, while keeping his head for months.

Tuomi’s death started Dahmer’s desire to kill.

How Was Jeffery Dahmer Caught?

On July 22, 1991, Jeffery Dahmer was arrested. Milwaukee police officers found one of his victims, Tracy Edwards, wondering the streets looking distressed while handcuffed. Edwards told officers he was drugged and restrained by Dahmer. Police investigated the situation, and found dismembered images of previous victims in Dahmer’s apartment

Dahmer’s Sentencing:

On February 15, 1992, the jury found him guilty on all charges of murder. The judge denied Dahmer’s insanity plea. Dahmer was sentenced to 15 consecutive life without parole sentences at Columbia Correctional Institution.

Dahmer was killed by an inmate at the Columbia Correctional Institution November 28, 1994.
