How to assemble your computer parts

Extra tools you might need when building a computer are Zip ties, screw drivers, scissors, and some way to mount yourself so you don’t damage the parts with electric discharge. Now that you have all your computer parts and tools to build your computer you can start assembling the parts.

Mounting Motherboard to the case:

First step of building a computer is to open up your computer case and mount your motherboard onto your case. The case should come with standoffs that screw onto the motherboard allowing it to mount to the case itself. This helps to insert other parts onto your motherboard and case easily.

Insert CPU to the Motherboard:

The next step is to mount your processor onto the CPU slot on the motherboard. To do so you must open the CPU slot latch and align the triangles of the CPU to the triangle on the motherboard CPU slot. After aligning the triangles then you place down the CPU onto the motherboard socket and close the latch.

Mounting CPU Fan:

Next is to apply thermal paste to the back of the CPU if thermal paste wasn’t already added (many CPUs like intel come with pre-applied thermal paste). After that seat the CPU cooler on top of the CPU and plug in the power cable attached to the cooler to the motherboard fan connector.

Inserting RAM:

To Insert the ram you must first locate the ram slots on the motherboard which are called the DIMM slots. After locating the slots you then open the latches and align the RAM to the holes on the DIMM slots. Then you can insert the ram until you hear a click. Once it is inserted you can close the latches.

Inserting storage (M.2 SSD):

To insert the M.2 SSD there are M.2 Slots on the motherboard. Just align the holes to the M.2 slots and then insert the M.2 SSD in the slot. This is the easiest installation of storage for a computer.

Inserting Power Supply / Cables:

To insert the power supply you must open the back of the computer and unscrew the power supply mount on the case. It looks like a giant cube that only the power supply can fit into. After unscrewing then insert the power supply and plug in the 8-pin cable connector and other connectors you need (for storage and GPU). Then route and plug them into the motherboard.

Mounting GPU to the Motherboard:

To insert the GPU you must remove the GPU expansion slots on the case. Then you can align and insert the GPU into the PCI slot. Make sure to screw down the GPU to the slots so it doesn’t fall out or get damaged. Last is to plug in the pin connectors it needs from the power supply (Most require at least 6 pin).

Inserting storage in case (SSD/HDD):

To mount Sata SSD and HDDs you must mount them on the case drive bays and screw them in to secure them. After that you need to connect the power cabling to the motherboard. Storage can always be added and removed later but you should have at least 50 gigabytes of storage for the operating system, windows, and drivers for needs.

Cable Management (Optional):

After finishing installing everything you can organize your cables in the back and front of the case to make sure it is easy when you need to work on your computer again in the future. Good computer practices help keep your computer clean and neat.

Boot Computer:

The last step is to boot your computer and see if it functions. If it does not then that means either you did one of the previous steps wrong or a part could be broken. Even if one part is not functioning right the whole computer could not work.
