Chesapeake Bay Bridge

The Chesapeake Bay Bridge spans the Chesapeake Bay in Maryland and connects the western and eastern shores of Maryland. It is part of route 50 and is a very busy and often congested way to travel, especially during the summer month when everyone is trying to spend some time at the Ocean.

It is a twin bridge, meaning that it has two bridges running parallel bay bridge two spansto each other, but each having its own structure. The original bridge consisted only of a single span and was build in 1953, the second span was added in 1973. The bridge is 4.2 miles long, it is one of the longest over water structures in the world. It is 185 feet above the water, and for anyone scared to drive across the bridge there even is a drive-over service available (for a fee).
