Adding Oil/Final Steps

Step 12: Add new oil Find the oil fill cap on top of the engine and use a funnel to add the appropriate amount and type of new oil, as specified in your car’s owner’s manual. Pour the oil slowly and check the oil level using the dipstick to ensure it’s at the correct level.

Step 13: Replace the oil fill cap Put the oil fill cap back in place and ensure it’s tightly sealed.

Step 14: Lower the car If you used a car jack and jack stands, carefully lower the car back to the ground. If you used ramps, drive the car off the ramps.

Step 15: Check for leaks Start the engine and let it run for a few minutes. Then, turn off the engine and check for any oil leaks around the oil drain plug and oil filter. If you notice any leaks, address them immediately.

Step 16: Dispose of the old oil Dispose of the old oil responsibly by taking it to a local auto parts store or recycling center. Do not pour it down the drain or throw it in the trash.

Congratulations! You have successfully changed the oil in your car. Remember to keep track of the date and mileage for the next oil change, as regular oil changes are crucial for maintaining your car’s engine in good condition.
