Removing Oil Plug and Draining Oil

Step 5: Remove the oil fill cap Open the hood and locate the oil fill cap on top of the engine. Remove it to allow air to enter the engine and help the oil drain more smoothly.

Step 6: Loosen the oil drain plug Using a socket wrench, carefully loosen the oil drain plug by turning it counterclockwise. Be cautious not to completely remove it yet; just loosen it enough to break the seal.

Step 7: Drain the old oil Fully remove the oil drain plug, allowing the old oil to drain into the drain pan. Be prepared for the oil to flow out quickly, so ensure the drain pan is properly positioned.

Step 8: Replace the oil drain plug After all the oil has drained, clean the drain plug and the surrounding area. Then, reinstall the oil drain plug and tighten it securely. Do not overtighten, as it can damage the oil pan.
