Step 9: Remove the old oil filter
Using an oil filter wrench if necessary, loosen and remove the old oil filter. Be careful as some oil may still be trapped in the filter. Allow it to drain into the drain pan.
Step 10: Lubricate the new oil filter
Dip your finger into some new oil and apply a thin layer of oil around the rubber gasket of the new oil filter. This helps create a proper seal and makes it easier to remove during the next oil change.
Step 11: Install the new oil filter
Screw the new oil filter into place by hand, turning it clockwise. Once the gasket contacts the engine surface, tighten the oil filter an additional 3/4 to 1 full turn by hand.
