This festival takes place of August 31st every year. It happens in Nejapa and many consider it the craziest festival in El Salvador. The festival honors a historic volcanic eruption. Balls of fire are launched between opposing teams while the public cheers them on.
Every year on May 3rd, crosses are decorated with paper chains and provide offerings such as fruit, candy, and candles. People are invited to say a prayer of gratitude. This act celebrates the renovation of the earth and the sprouting of the flowers.
