Stowe:An incredible destination in every season. While fall is especially beautiful with its brilliant foliage and cooler temps, and winter is beautiful for its perfect snowfalls, Stowe is wonderful year-round. History: Stowe is Vermont’s largest town in land area with over 50,000 acres and a permanent population of over 4,000. Vermont’s highest peak, Mt. Mansfield, and some of the finest agricultural and woodland in the state are located within this land area. In 1921, Stowe held its first Winter Carnival with ski jumping, skating, and myriad other fun-filled events. Downhill skiing, however, would not truly develop in Stowe until the Great Depression, when the Civilian Conservation Corps established camps and began clearing ski trails on Mt. Mansfield.

Recreation: First thing on someones list going to Stowe should be to drive Mount Mansfield or if up for the challenge walk it. At the top is a breathtaking view that allows you see over all of Stowe. Visit Smugglers Notch to learn about the history of runaway slaves and sneaking alcohol during the prohibition. Take a swim in the bottom of Sterling Falls Gorge in the hot springs during the Summer and Fall. Lastly, enjoy one of the largest snowboarding and ski resorts in all of America at the Stowe Ski Resort.
