Towson EMF Major

Towson’s EMF Major is split into three different concentrations for three separate ways of focusing on media: Film/Video/Digital Media, Radio/Audio, and Film and Media Studies.

The Film/Video/Digital (FVM) Media concentration focuses on the production of more film-related and visual media, some

examples being screenwriting, broadcasting, camera work for television/movies,

news, and sportscasting. FVM is perfect for someone who wants to directly be involved with the writing and making of media, as well as manage cinematography and visual effects.

The Radio/Audio concentration focuses on, well, audio production. Things such as sound design, live sound, audio mixing, and editing, as well as production of sound for media through various ways such as foley (Foley is when sound is recorded in a studio to replicate real sound into a microphone, then added into a movie or any sort of visual media.) This concentration is great for those who want to control how things sound and apply their auditory creativity to media and cooperate with those who make media.

The Film and Media Studies concentration is unique. Instead of focusing on the production of media itself, this concentration focuses on more analytical and scholarly-like studies of media, with classes on genre, film history, culture and society, mass  media, and the criticism and betterment of media.
