Popular in the US, American football is known for its toughness, strategy, and athleticism. In order to progress an oval-shaped ball down a 100-yard field and score points, two teams of eleven players each must cross the opposing team’s goal line or kick the ball through their goalposts. There are breaks in between each of the game’s four quarters, and different plays and formations are used to outwit the defense of the other team.
