special teams

Football’s “special teams” are the group in charge of the kicking game and other non-offensive or non-defensive plays. Field goals, extra points, kickoffs, and punts are all included in this. The kicker, punter, and long snapper are among the roles on the special teams unit, along with a variety of returners and coverage players. The punter kicks the ball downfield to change field position, while the kicker is in charge of sending the ball through the uprights for field goals and extra points. When field goals and punting are being attempted, the long snapper is in charge of precisely snapping the ball. The coverage players are in charge of tackling the opposition returner, while the returners are in charge of catching and running back kicks and punts. Special teams may be very important.
