Also known as “the quintessential New Orleans art form – a jazz funeral without a body,” Second Line Sundays are so unique to the Big Easy. Historically, the African-American community began second lines as neighborhood celebrations. There are two parts to a second line. The first line is made up of the grand marshal or parade leader, the band, and whoever is being honored. The community uses second line as a way to celebrate with loved ones and friends for funerals, weddings, and community gatherings.
