The right running gear can significantly enhance your comfort and performance during marathon training. Here is a list of a few things I’ve found made the biggest difference in marathon training:
- Running Shoes
- Invest in good running shoes that suit your running style and provide proper support. Specialty running stores can help you determine what shoe is right for you.
- GPS Watch or Running Apps
- A GPS watch or app can help you track your distance, pace, and other important metrics. This data can be valuable for monitoring and adjusting your training accordingly.
- Hydration Vest or Belt
- Â Staying hydrated during long runs is incredibly important and easily achievable by using a hydration belt or vest. These will help you to carry water, sports drinks, or energy products conveniently, as well as offering space for your phone, keys, and anything you like to bring with you on your runs. These can easily be found on Amazon.
- Moisture-Wicking Apparel
- Choose moisture-wicking, breathable fabrics for your running clothes to keep you dry and comfortable.
- Compression Gear
- Compression socks or sleeves can aid in circulation and muscle recovery, especially during long training runs.
- Nutrition and Hydration Products
- Energy gels, chews, honey stingers, or sports drinks can provide necessary fuel during your long runs. Experiment with different products during training to find what works best for you.
- Body Glide or Anti-Chafing Balm
- Apply anti-chafing products to areas prone to friction.
- Hats, Sunglasses, Reflective Gear
- These will protect your eyes and face from the sun, as well as making sure you are visible to cars and other when running near the road and/or in the dark.
- Foam Roller or Massage Stick
- Using foam rollers or massage sticks can help aid in muscle recovery and alleviate muscle tightness and soreness.
It is important to remember that individual preferences will vary, therefore you have to try out different products that work best for you and your training.
