Background of Florida

Florida is a state in the southeast of the country, bordered to the east by the Atlantic Ocean and to the west by the Gulf of Mexico. The state is renowned for its bright beaches, comfortable weather, and multicultural population. The territory was claimed by Spain by Spanish explorer Juan Ponce de Leon, who gave it the name La Florida, which is Spanish for “land of flowers.”
