1932

  • George Preston Marshall and his associates found the team in Boston on July 9th, name them the Braves after thje local baseball team

1933

  • Marshall renames the team to the “Redskins” due differentiate themselves from the baseball team

1936

  • Washington advances to the NFL Championship but lose to the Green Bay Packers 21-6

1937

  • Marshall moves the team to Washington D.C. on February 13th due to lack of media coverage in Boston
  • The team’s marching band is founded on August 9th, it is currently the oldest marching band in the NFL
  • Washington beat the Chicago Bears 28-21 to win its first NFL Championship

1940

  • Washington advances to the NFL Championship but lose to the Chicago Bears 73-0

1942

  • Washington beat the Chicago Bears 14-6 to win its second NFL Championship

1943

  • Washington advances to the NFL Championship but lose to the Chicago Bears 41-21

1945

  • Washington advances to the NFL Championship but lose to the Cleveland Rams 15-14

1961

  • Washington moves to RFK Memorial Stadium, where the team would play until 1996

1969

  • George Preston Marshall dies on August 9th, minority owner Edward Bennett Williams is put in charge of football operations in place of majority owner Jack Kent Cooke, who lived in LA

1971

  • Washington advances to the Divisional Round but lose to the San Francisco 49ers 24-20

1972

  • Running Back Larry Brown wins NFL MVP
  • Washington advances to Super Bowl VII but lose to the Miami Dolphins 14-7

1973

  • Washington advances to the Divisional Round but lose to the Minnesota Vikings 27-20

1974

  • Washington advances to the Divisional Round but lose to the Los Angeles Rams 19-10

1976

  • Washington advances to the Divisional Round but lose to the Minnesota Vikings 35-20

1978

  • Jack Kent Cooke moves from Los Angeles to Virginia to take over football operations from Edward Bennett Williams

1982

  • Quarterback Joe Theismann wins NFL MVP
  • Washington advances to Super Bowl XVIII but lose to the Los Angeles Raiders 38-9

1984

  • Washington advances to the Divisonal Round but lose to the Chicago Bears 23-19

1986

  • Washington advances to the Conference Championship but lose to the New York Giants 17-0

1987

  • Washington advances to the Divisional Round but lose to the San Francisco 49ers 28-10

1991

1992

  • Washington advances to the Divisional Round but lose to the San Francisco 49ers 20-13

1997

  • Jack Kent Cooke dies on April 6th, his son John Kent Cooke takes over football operations
  • Washington moves into Jack Kent Cooke Stadium in Landover, Maryland, now Commanders Field

1999

  • John Kent Cooke sells the team to Dan Snyder for $800 Million, the largest deal in sports history at the time
  • Washington advances to the Divisional Round but lose to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers 14-13

2005

  • Washington advances to the Divisional Round but lose to the   Seattle Seahawks 20-10

2007

  • Washington advances to the Wild Card Round but lose to the Seattle Seahawks 35-14

2012

  • Washington advances to the Wild Card Round but lose to the Seattle Seahawks 24-14

2015
