Prerequisites
The first step in the nursing school journey is to complete prerequisites required by your school’s nursing program. These are usually heavily science-based and require completion of classes such as: Biology, Anatomy & Physiology (I & II), Chemistry, Microbiology, and Human Development. There are additional Math and English requirements, but the sciences are generally the most important focuses. In addition to these prerequisites, nursing school hopefuls are required to take the Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS), which includes questions based in four areas: Reading, math, science, and English and language usage. If students meet the prerequisites required by their institution, they can apply for acceptance into nursing school. For students who are turned down, it is important to stay motivated and not get discouraged. Keep asking questions about what you can do to get accepted next semester and keep your head up!
