History of Ultimate
Ultimate Frisbee, otherwise known as just Ultimate, is a game played with a flying disc that was invented at a New Jersey high school in 1968. While other iterations of the game were played before, this was the version that would turn into what Ultimate is today. When the players of the first Ultimate game moved on to college, they took the sport with them, and the first intercollege game was played in 1972 between Rutgers and Princeton. After that, the sport rapidly grew in popularity amongst colleges and universities.
The sport is widely played across the world in all different age ranges, experience levels, and genders. There are multiple professional leagues in the US and in Europe, as well as the highly competitive club level. It is recognized as a World Games sport (an offshoot of the Olympic Games) and also has global competitions that features teams from almost every continent.
