Everyone’s perception of the Washington Commanders’ chances of making the NFC playoffs was altered when the New York Giants entered the picture (7-5-1). The Commanders’ playoff push was hindered by that outcome, although overall it didn’t really affect them. The outcomes of other games in the season’s last five weeks may still determine Washington’s postseason fate and seed. However, they were temporarily eliminated from the playoff field due to the tie. With their victory, the Seattle Seahawks (7-5) climbed one seed into the NFC Playoff field. But the Commanders still control whether they make the playoffs or not. What the other NFC teams do won’t matter if they prevail. This is because their Sunday Night Football game against the Giants (7-4-1) in Week 15 was flexed. If Washington wins that contest and the next games, it will be no worse than the No. 7 seed. These contests are against the Dallas Cowboys in Week 18, the San Francisco 49ers (8-4) and the Cleveland Browns (5-7). (9-3). Results must go their way for them to advance past that, mostly for the Seahawks and Cowboys to lose.Week 14’s bye gives Washington an opportunity to rest, basically unwind, and watch any games they may be interested in. The Commanders are now mathematically eligible for all seven NFC seeds, including the top seed. The Philadelphia Eagles (11-1) must lose and the Commanders must triumph, at the very least, for that to happen. If the Eagles win this week, Washington would only be eligible for the Wild Card and seeds No. 5-7. Overall, Washington must beat the Giants to sit much more comfortable in the playoff picture.
