What is Information Technology

Information Technology Basics

Information Technology is the study or use of systems (especially computers and telecommunications) for storing, retrieving, and sending information. This definition encompasses the main goal of IT, however how that information is sent and received can be split up into different sections.

Networking

Networking when it comes to IT is mainly focused on the infrastructure whether it be virtual or physical that allows the interconnectedness online that we use to send almost any kind of information. Whether that be text messages or documents and whether it be through your phone or computer. It all comes down to having the network to be the middle-man for the situation.

Software Engineering

Software Engineering is more of a sub focus that relates to computer science more than it does IT. However some of it’s principles do still apply as even if you have the infrastructure in place you still need the applications to send that information. Using software to develop apps and their communication features goes hand in hand with using the network infrastructure already in place.
