Here are some more technical tips needed to improve at Brawl:
- Mix up your light attacks to perform combos on your opponents. Be careful when using your heavy attacks, as they are very punishable, and using them too often will be at your disadvantage.
- To move across the stage faster, jump and dodge at the same time to perform a “dash jump.”
- Your dodge comes back 2 seconds after using it, so keep that in mind. You can dodge in any direction you want, but don’t dodge the same way all of the time because that is risky. You can “read” your opponent by taking note of their playstyle and if they repeatedly dodge the same way so you can create a counter attack. In order to perform a move called a “gravity cancel,” dodge in mid air whilst simultaneously attacking.
- When you wish to stun your opponent, you can perform a “clash” by using an attack with the same force at the same time. You can also stun them by weapon throwing, so throw your weapon often!
- Struggling to get back to stage when knocked off? Use your jumps, dodge, and your heavy attack button (called “recovery”) to come back to stage. Depending on the weapon, you can use light attacks to get back to stage as well. But be careful of your opponent coming to finish the job!
