Date Established – February 26, 1919

History:

The first bill to establish the Grand Canyon as a national park was introduced by Senator Benjamin Harrison. The act was finally signed to make it a national park in 1916 by President Woodrow Wilson.

The canyon was created by the incision of the Colorado River after the Colorado Plateau was uplifted.

Fun Facts:

In 2010, Grand Canyon National Park was honored with its own coin.
