History:
Humans have lives in and around the Everglades for thousands of years. The park was established in 1934 to protect the everglades, and restoration of the Everglades is a hot political issue in Florida.
Fun Facts:
The park is the most significant breeding ground for wading birds in North America and contains the largest mangrove ecosystems in the Western Hemisphere
Thirty-six threatened or protected species inhabit the park, including the Florida panther, American crocodile, and West Indian Manatee
Recreational Activities:
The park is busiest between December and March, with five visitor centers featured in the park. The park features opportunities for numerous walking and hiking trails, birdwatching, boat tours, and camping.
