Capitals Catch-Up

HISTORY:

The Capitals were formed in 1974. They are a part of the National Hockey League (NHL) and are a part of the Metropolitan division of the Eastern Conference. Their divisional opponents include the NJ Devils, NY Rangers and Islanders, Pittsburgh Penguins and the Philadelphia Flyers. They originally played their games in Landover, Maryland but eventually moved to Capital One Center in Washington, DC. Many Marylanders are Capitals fans if they watch Hockey because Baltimore does not have a NHL team.

RECENT: 

  • Their current record is 11-12-4, having 4 overtime losses.
  • The Capitals won their first Stanley Cup Title in 2018 after playing the Las Vegas Golden Knights.
  • They’ve also won the Eastern Conference Championship in 1998 and 2018.
  • They are home to iconic player Alex Ovechkin, nicknamed Ovi. Ovi has 780 career goals and 71 of them have come in the Stanley Cup Playoffs. Ovi also has been with the Capitals since he was drafted in 2004. He made his NHL debut in 2005.
  • Other iconic players include, Nicholas Backstrom, TJ Oshie and John Carlson.
